MOSCATEL & SYRAH, FRESH AND SEDUCTIVE
Finca Constancia was born from the Bordeaux Chateaux and an avant-garde spirit. Vintage after vintage they are able to produce many different magnificent offers. Now, in a carrier as surprising as efficient, they present two new single variety low alcohol wines, fresh, easy to drink and made to be enjoyed.
González Byass and the Finca Constancia team have recently launched two new wines called Fragantia Nº6 and Fragantia Nº9, fruit of innovation and the demands of the market.
Moscatel:
The new Fragantia Nº6 (the number is the amount of alcohol in the wine) is produced 100% from moscatel, specifically small grain moscatel, one of the most aromatic grapes in the world and a variety that is well developed in the Toledo province, standing out for its very unique characteristics.
‘When the moscatel grapes completely ferment they produce very dry and aromatic wines which do not show good balance’ explains Beatriz Paniagua ‘Whilst investigating Fragantia Nº6 we studied how these wines react with a slightly higher level of residual sugar (stopping fermentation with 90 grams of natural sugar). This is when we found that Fragantia finds its balance as it has acidity, freshness, pure varietal aromas however we also manage to achieve a much more pleasant and light mouth feel.’
More freshness:
These types of wines have always existed in the North of Italy, in the area of Moscato d’Asti, however they have more sugar and are thought of a dessert wines. This new trend, looking for more freshness is very fashionable at the moment in the US.
There is much experimentation with the Moscatel variety in different climatic conditions to ours, and a great deal of production to be consumed by the glass at night.
Six degrees of alcohol:
‘These Fragantias are wines for those who prefer a beer because they don’t want a lot of alcohol however they don’t like wine’ says the Finca Constancia winemaker. Both wines are working well with both young people and adults.’
Is it a wine?
We should call them low alcohol wines, light wines (less alcohol, less calories), fresh wines or slightly sparkling wines if they have some bubbles (the Fragantia wines have CO2 and therefore bubbles).
Violets:
Fragantia Nº9 is produced with the Syrah variety, a sweet variety in which we look for the optimum point of maturation as if it was a red wine. ‘We have chosen this variety as it shows pronounced violet aromas and we thought that this characteristic would give the wine personality. In the production we leave the Syrah to mature to a possible 14 degrees however in order to achieve a fresh and pleasant wine we stop fermentation. The same process is used as in the Moscatel however `’the point of perfect balance for this wine is at nine degrees’ explain Paniagua.
Fragantia Nº9 is more for the classic consumer as it is more similar to a conventional wine than the Fragantia Nº6.
Harmonies:
These wines work perfectly as aperitifs. In cocktails and in weddings is where we are finding most success. They match perfectly with seafood, salads, ham and patés, also with cheese and all types of dishes.
Finca Constancia:
‘We look to carry out this type of investigations and experiments. They are challenges, that when the work out well give great satisfaction. The team at Finca Constancia should always have the attitude to look for and propose new ideas. We should always keep an eye on the markets and the possibilities that we have and use our creativity to create wines that will surprise the consumer, who are always looking for something new, in this case the Fragantia wines are looking to bring new consumers to wine as they are the perfect way to begin drinking wine.’
